Katonah-Lewisboro School Board to Talk Teachers Contract

The teachers contract is on the agenda for Thursday's meeting of the Katonah-Lewisboro School District Board of Education.

Here's what the action item states:

"Be it resolved, that the board of education of the Katonah Lewisboro Union Free School District hereby authorizes and approves the memorandum of agreement between the board and the Katonah Lewisboro District Teachers' Association, dated May 9, 2013; and be it further resolved, that the Board of Education hereby authorizes the superintendent of schools to incorporate said memorandum of agreement into a more formal written agreement and further, authorizes the Superintendent of Schools to execute said formal written agreement on behalf of the Board.

This resolution is subject to the prior approval of the Katonah-Lewisboro District Teachers' Association which will have a vote of its membership on May 23, 2013. The memorandum of agreement is effective upon the ratification of both the association and the board of education.
Some community members have characterized labor negotiations between the district and the teachers' associated as negative and antagonistic. See the following links for more on the subject:

The meeting, which is taking place in the cafeteria at Increase Miller Elementary School, will begin with executive session at 6:30 p.m. The board is slated to return for public session at 7:30 p.m.
