Lane Closures on Routes 22 and 172 Through June 22, NYSDOT Says

Weather permitting, traffic will be reduced to one-way, alternating lanes daily between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Route 22 between Middle Patent Road and Route 121 and on Route 172 between Route 117 and Route 22.

Allow some extra time if you plan to travel on Routes 22 and 172 in Bedford during the next week.

Remember the state funds Patch announced last month?

Those projects have begun, and motorists are advised that the New York State Department of Transportation will be conducting intermittent, alternating lane closures on NY Routes 22 and 172, in both directions, starting June 13 through June 22 for paving activities.

The work is part of a pavement preservation project in the NY Works program, which allocates $247 million in state capital funds and $917 million in new federal funds for a total of $1.2 billion in spending designed to accelerate repair, replacement and improvement of deficient roads and bridges.

Among the cautionary measures the NYSDOT recommends are:

  • Use caution when traveling through the work area and pay particular attention to all traffic control devices, including work zone signs and flaggers.
  • Travelers are also reminded that fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. In accordance with the Work Zone Safety Act of 2005, convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of the driver’s license.
