Letter to the Editor: Michaelis Thanks Supporters
Peter Michaelis writes an open letter to the voters of District 2.

My heartfelt thanks go to all who helped in my successful Primary for County Legislator. I share this victory with you and all northern Westchester taxpayers who deserve a county government that is smaller, smarter and less costly.
My primary opponent, Lisa Douglas, ran a tough, competitive race. I admire her commitment and energy and invite her to join together with us in our campaign for fiscal responsibility.
Within hours of the polls closing, my opponent, incumbent Pete Harckham, issued a press release promising to set aside rhetoric and run on his record. I plan to focus 100% on Pete Harckham’s record, including how he has said that voters deserve the truth from their elected officials.

Yet there are inconvenient truths which he, himself, has neglected to share: 1.) How Westchester has been the highest taxed county in America and its financial condition has progressively weakened every year since he was elected, 2.) How as Majority Leader of the Board of Legislators he towed the party line by voting for the 2011 budget that gambled on inflated tax revenues and took millions from reserves to create the illusion of greater tax savings - a political shell game that resulted in the County receiving a lowered credit outlook, and 3.) How his vote in favor of the Spano federal housing settlement threatens to dismantle our zoning laws, undermine school financing and harm the environment.
