Letter to the Editor: Pick Alexander to Oppose Hayworth

Jeff Morris of South Salem writes in support of Matthew Alexander for Tuesday's primary.

Dear Editor:

Tuesday, June 26 is a day Democrats should make every effort to go to the polls. On that day they will pick a candidate to and that candidate should be Matt Alexander, mayor of Wappingers Falls.

I’ve met and talked with Matt, and found he has two qualities that are essential and sorely lacking in Washington: He is very smart, and he genuinely cares about all the people of this district.

Matt has used his financial background along with an innate understanding of how to build consensus and make government work, to help drive a dramatic turnaround in his community. Under Matt’s leadership Wappingers Falls has experienced an astonishing 17% growth rate in this difficult economy. Crime is down, public services are strong, and infrastructure and water systems have been upgraded after years of decline—while Matt held the line on property taxes. It is no accident he has twice been re-elected with bipartisan support in a Republican dominated area.

Matt provides a stark contrast with Nan Hayworth. He is not a Washington insider, yet has proved he can effectively navigate the partisan labyrinth to get things done. His support comes from within the district. While Hayworth has done nothing but complain that everything government does is “job-killing”, Matt has actually created jobs. And he has consistently been a strong advocate for clean water and women’s rights.

Matt Alexander can stand up to and defeat Nan Hayworth, and I urge you to vote for him on June 26.
