Updated: Letters to the Editor: Support Burdick, Gabrielson

Bernard Begley, Bea Rhodes and Graham Anderson write in support of the Democratic candidates.

Dear Editor:

I feel obliged to write this letter in support of Democrats Chris Burdick and Dave Gabrielson though I am a registered independent myself and have been for some time.

Too often when the Republicans are running for office and there is a debate or there are being interviewed, they find many reasons to find fault with their opponents, but once elected, they see no problem with their own party and too often simply vote along party lines.

This is not the case with Chris Burdick and Dave Gabrielson and I am giving my full support to these two independent-minded representatives in the November election as they have both proven to be non-partisan and work on behalf of all residents.

As Independent, I know they will bring—and have brought—balance to Bedford Town Board, having only the best interest of their people at heart. They will do whatever it takes and give of themselves 100 percent. I have reason to know this as I had a problem and needed their advice. I was given time, wonderful advice and concern with follow up mail to me. Needless to say I was greatly impressed.

I urge you to support Chris and Dave in the upcoming elections.

Dear Editor:

Chris Burdick is the reason why I got involved with the local election process in 2007.

I was so impressed by him at a Katonah Village Improvement Society forum, when he was then the Chair of the Wetlands Commission, that when I found out he was going to make a run for the Town Board, I asked him if I could help.

Chris has not disappointed, I don’t think anyone works as hard as Chris—be it on the Town Board, the Community Organizations Committee or as liaison to Departments—and I could go on.

Chris is dedicated, does his research, honors his commitments, he never ceases to impress me and others, he does an incredible job!

Doesn’t matter what party you are affiliated with, vote Chris Burdick on November 8th!

Bea Rhodes, Katonah

To the Editor:

I like Chris Burdick.  He possesses high integrity and a strong character.  Although Chris and I do not belong to the same political party and may not always agree on every issue, he works with me toward a set of common goals on the Board of Directors of Westmoreland Sanctuary.   I do not regularly write letters in support of candidates from my own political party and it is very unusual for me to write on behalf of a candidate from another party.   Still, I believe Chris Burdick has earned my support by working hard and focusing on the needs of Bedford’s residents.  That is why I like Chris for Town Board.

Along with his Republican counterparts on the Town Board, Chris Burdick has kept Bedford’s tax increases at about 2.2% per year for the past three years, which is about as low as the town can manage given a series of unfunded mandates from Albany.    Moreover, Chris and the Town Board have chosen spending cuts wisely and Bedford still provides the essential services we taxpayers need.

Since Chris joined, Town Board operations have become more transparent and open.  This openness is critical for maintaining taxpayer trust.  Meetings are webcast and the town website provides more information than ever before.  And Chris has focused on preserving water quality and protecting the natural beauty of Bedford, which is one of the areas we focus on together at Westmoreland.  Our community is finally getting a new water filtration plant for Bedford Hills and Katonah and Chris was instrumental in providing for ridgeline protections and renewing Bedford’s Open Space law.  I summed it up in my very first sentence.  I like Chris Burdick.  I stand by that statement.

Graham Anderson, Bedford
