Photos: Lewisboro Little League Kicks Off Season
The day included a barbecue, parade, speeches and free ice cream.
Opening Day for Lewisboro little leaguers was anything but little.
A parade of a few hundred players, their coaches, elected officials and special guests lined the infield at the Lewisboro Town Park for the Lewisboro Baseball Association opening day Saturday.
"It was a real celebration of community spirit," said Greg LaSorsa, president of the LBA board. "I'm so grateful to the board for going above and beyond and getting it all done."

Steve Mangione, a community volunteer whose children have graduated from little league, served as emcee of the day, which was sponsored by Duxiana of Greenwich, CT. Sue Vales of the in South Salem provided the food at the barbecue which preceded the parade of players and official ceremonies.
LaSorsa said that the league had a big year last year when it completed renovations and improvements to the town park, "enlarging the field and making it safer" and adding a handicapped entrance. This year, he said, they planned to honor community commitment to the league, which was founded in the 1950s.

Today there are approximately 350 players from first grade through age 16 that play in the league, said LaSorsa.
La Sorsa presented honors to Chris Andrews, who received the first "LBA community spirit award."
In addition, the LBA officially retired a baseball jersey in honor the memory of Bryan Conway, a Lewisboro youth who was passionate about sports. Conway helped to dedicate the opening of the new handicapped entrance to the fields before he died last summer. His parents, Alan and Heather, were on hand to accept the jersey.
"We honored him the best we could," said LaSorsa. "He was an inspiration to the players—they wanted to be their best when he was around."
