Bedford police said store owners reported that a group of five unfamiliar individuals—three males, two females—entered the store between 5:30 p.m. and 5:45 p.m. A short while later as the store prepared to close, proprietors Bart and Diana Tyler reported that the store safe was open and $546 was missing.
The Katonah Chamber of Commerce posted the news on their Facebook page at at about 10 p.m. Co-presidents Christopher Roberts and Edris Scherer said in an email to Patch that they plan to work with the store and the police to learn what they can do as an organization to ensure the safety of their members and the community's peace of mind.

"We would like to meet with the police chief about this to create a framework for the chamber to have a role in educating our members about potential risks and danger signs," Roberts said. "If we can help create open lines between us and the town, and the police and general community—we will."
The chamber also said in their post, "We would be grateful if EVERYONE stopped by the store tomorrow to shower Diana, Bart, Jeff and the staff with good wishes."
Police Lieutenant Jeffrey Dickan said earlier this week that thefts are a more common occurrence at this time of year. Detectives are also investigating a Nov. 25 theft at the Harvey School in Katonah, when 15 Apple computers were stolen from the school library. In that case, thieves broke a window to remove the computers.
