Police: Man Faces DWI Charges After Leaving Accident Scene

A Greenwich man was arrested after crashing his car into a tree on McClain Street while driving under the influence of alcohol, Bedford police said.
Police responded to a report of a car accident at the intersection of McLain Street and Barker Street in Bedford Hills at 5:15 a.m. on May 5. They arrived and found a Nissan Morano that had apparently struck a tree. No driver was on the scene.
Police checked out the car and found an open container of beer and a local Broad Brook Road address printed on a pay stub. While investigating, police saw an oncoming car approach the area and stopped the vehicle.

They interviewed the driver and the passenger, Ever Martinez, 37, of Greenwich, CT.
Martinez admitted to operating the car and leaving it at the scene while he went for help. He also said he another car had forced him off the road, and he had not drank any alcohol since the collision.

Martinez failed field sobriety tests and was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital for evaluation, where he had bloodwork done for a BAC test, the results of which were not immediately available.
He was charged with DWI, expired insurance, leaving the scene of an accident, third degree aggravated unlicensed operation and consuming alcoholic beverages. He was released without bail pending an appearance in Bedford court.
Pound Ridge man charged with DWI
William Whitehead, 42, of Pound Ridge, was arrested on May 2 after he struck a telephone pole with his car, police said.
Police responded to a call from a local woman who was following a car driving north on Route 22. She described the black Toyota as weaving across the double yellow lines multiple times and said the car hit a telephone pole but kept going. Officers located the car on Greenwich Road and also witnessed weaving over the yellow lines, they said.
After stopping Whitehead near St. Patrick's in Bedford, they interviewed the driver who appeared to have bloodshot eyes. Whitehead failed field sobriety tests and was charged with DWI, leaving the scene of an accident, refusing a prescreen test and passing in a no passing zone. He was released on $200 bail.
Ossining woman charged with petty larceny
Police arrested Fani Minchalo, 45, of Ossining after Kohl's Department Store security officers said they observed her removing two pairs of earrings valued at $28, and removing a $60 price tag from a sweater and replacing it with a $20 pricetag. Michalo went to the store register, paid $20 for mismarked sweater, and left the store without paying for the earrings, police said. She was released on $100 bail pending a future court appearance.
