Police: Reis Park Thief Found With Stolen Credit Cards, iPod, Cel Phones

A New York City man was arrested by state troopers and the Somers police department after officers found him with stolen credits cards and an iPod in the woods near Reis Park in Somers.

Alexander Matos, 29, stole from cars parked at Reis Park over the last several weeks, police said. Matos was confronted by a park-goer last Wednesday who said she saw him with her cell phone which had just been stolen from her unlocked car.

Matos fled into a wooded area and was apprehended by responding officers with the assistance of employees of the Town of Somers Parks and Recreation Department who were working in the area at the time of the incident.

At the time of his arrest, Matos had a stolen credit card belonging to a victim whose other stolen card was used on April 29 to charge a $400.00 gift card at the 7-Eleven store in Katonah. He also had a third person’s stolen card and an I-pod stolen from a fourth victim’s vehicle.

Matos also admitted that he broke into the Van Tassel House, a town-owned building adjacent to the park, on the evening of May 15.

He was charged with second degree forgery and three counts of fourth degree criminal possession of stolen property, felonies, and petty larceny, third degree criminal trespassing and fifth degree criminal possession of stolen property, misdemeanors.
