From the family of Richard Knight Rockefeller
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Richard Knight Rockefeller on May 25, 2023, at the age of 83. Rick was born in Port Chester, NY in 1940 to Otis and Clarice Rockefeller and lived a life dedicated to service, family and community.
After graduating from Gettysburg College in 1962, where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity, Rick embarked on a journey of love and companionship when he married Linda Winters in 1963. Rick's sense of duty led him to serve as a lieutenant in the Army and subsequently as Deputy Adjunct General at Fort Monmouth, NJ.

Following his honorable service, Rick transitioned to a successful career in the insurance industry, dedicating 37 years to his work and retiring as an agency partner. Rick's impact extended far beyond his professional endeavors, as he served as Vice President of the Westchester-Putnam Council of the Boy Scouts of America for 23 years and held the position of Vice Chairman at the Greenwich Federal Savings and Loan Association for over three decades.
Rooted in his faith, Rick devoted his time and energy to various boards of the Presbyterian Church of Mt. Kisco through the ‘80s and ‘90s. His commitment to community continued even in retirement when he moved from Katonah, NY to Westport, NY and joined St. John's Episcopal where he joined and served on the vestry.

Rick's spirit extended to cultural and community organizations, where he actively contributed his expertise and passion. He served on the boards of Ballard Park and the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum. His pursuit of knowledge and personal growth led him to achieve his 32nd Masonic Degree and assume the role of treasurer at the local lodge.
An avid model railroader, Rick found joy in meticulously crafting miniature worlds and bringing them to life through his passion for trains. His creativity and attention to detail were evident in his hobby, and he shared this love with friends and fellow enthusiasts.
His dedication to family was unwavering, and he cherished spending time at the family camp on Mt. Arab Lake, creating lifelong memories with loved ones and friends. He also served on the Mt. Arab Preserve Association Board and as President of the PICL Board to oversee and protect the natural beauty and habitats of the pristine Adirondack lakes that he loved so much.
Rick is survived by Linda, his loving wife of 60 years, who stood by his side through all seasons of life. His memory lives on through his sons, Todd (Lisa) and Scott, and his three granddaughters, Katie, Emelia, and Talia.
In honor of Rick's legacy of compassion and service, the family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his name to the charity of your choice. A summer memorial service will be announced at a later date, allowing friends, and loved ones to gather and celebrate Rick’s remarkable life.
