2. Results in from State math and ELA
The State Education Department (SED) released the results of the April 2012 grades 3-8 math and English Language Arts (ELA) assessments on Tuesday. Statewide, the average scale scores on this year’s exams in both ELA and math are slightly higher than last year in most grades, and there is a small increase in the percentage of grades 3-8 students across the State who met or exceeded the proficiency standard on both exams, according to state officials. We'll be reporting on any gains or losses in local districts but in the meantime, the results for individual buildings are posted here.

At the town meeting Tuesday night, the board approved funding for its cemetery committee and its open space program, two initiatives we'll be reporting this week. In addition, they approved the Katonah 5K Road and Trail Race for September, pending parking permissions and police personnel, details the committee said they were prepared to work through. The race will have the backing of two chambers of commerce, and will benefit local libraries.
