Should Katonah Have Two-Hour Parking?

Weigh in here and attend the public hearing Tuesday night at town hall.

What parking solution makes the most sense for downtown Katonah?

The downtown area is currently a mix of one-and-two-hour parking, with the shorter times essentially concentrated along busy Katonah Avenue and the Parkway. Katonah merchants have proposed that all spaces be changed to two-hour spaces.

, the issue will have a public hearing Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at town hall.

While some town board members raised concerns over about enforcement, lost parking capacity and lost revenue, the Katonah Chamber of Commerce believes it will help small businesses.

All but one of their 128 members support the change, they said at the May 5 meeting. An informal Facebook poll created by the chamber resulted in 55 votes for two-hour parking and having mixed time slots of 30 minute, one hour or two-hour slots recieved a handful of votes.

Carleton Thomas Henrich commented on the poll, saying that he finds holiday shopping in Katonah frustrating because of the short parking time, and has received a parking ticket in the past. "Mount Kisco gives the time away during that time—makes for a friendlier feeling," he said. "Ridgefield and New Canaan also friendlier to shoppers."

What do you think?

Would it be easier to shop downtown if you had a little longer?

Would you support a two-hour solution?

Tomorrow night's public hearing starts at 7 p.m. at the Bedford town hall.
