Sirens Test, Owls, Mother Goose is Back

It's 5 things you need to know Wednesday.

1. Indian Point Sirens Test

Can you hear Indian Point sirens? Entergy will conduct a test of all Indian Point sirens in Westchester, Rockland, Putnam and Orange counties today beginning at 10:30 a.m. All the sirens will be sounded for four minutes at full volume followed by an activation of the Emergency Alert System on radio and television stations. This is only a test. No response on the part of the public is necessary.

4. Fried talks owls at the Katonah Memorial House

Bedford Audubon hosts a talk about owls tonight at 7:30 p.m. "Learn about all 19 species that inhabit our continent, see photographs and listen to their eerie calls," with Sam Fried, a past President of Hartford Audubon Society. Fried's work has been published in field guides, books, newspapers and magazines worldwide, including National Audubon, Birder's World, Bird Watcher's Digest, Birding and Living Bird magazines; he also wrote several chapters of the Insight Guides book on birding in North America, published by the Discovery Channel.
