State Police Issue 27 Tickets for "Move Over" Violations
The new law requires drivers to slow down and move over when approaching emergency vehicles parked on highway road shoulders.

State police in Somers yesterday conducted a "move over"detail, resulting in 27 tickets issued to drivers in Interstate 684 in Westchester County.
The law, enacted in January, requires drivers to take precautions to avoid hitting emergency vehicles parked on the side of the road. Drivers must reduce their speed when approaching, and on parkways and interstate highways, drivers have to move from the lane immediately adjacent to the emergency vehicles—unless there are hazards to doing so.
A violation of this law is punishable by a fine of up to $275 dollars and two points on the driver's license record.
Six tickets were issued for failure to move over; five were issued for other violations; 11 tickets were issued for speeding and five were given to drivers not wearing seatbelts.
