Streets were quiet this morning in Bedford and Katonah, the day after a storm swept through the area, downing trees and knocking out power in thousands of homes.

Signs of the wind, hail and rain are still evident, however. Though trees have been cleared for traffic on Route 35, Route 22 is still closed from Jay Street to Cantitoe Road, and the traffic lights at Route 35 and 22 are out, leaving morning commuters a difficult intersection to navigate.

NYSEG spokesperson Jim Salmon said as of 8:30 a.m. 2,700 homes in Northern Westchester were still without power; about 700 of them were in Bedford. The outages are scattered but a heavy concentration of them are on Mt. Holly Road, Mustato Road and Cross River Road.

Salmon said most residents should expect a return to power today, but because of broken power poles, which are time consuming to repair, some outages could continue through tomorrow.

The storm has caused some local program closures and relocations; Harvey Cavalier Arts Camp is closed on Thursday and the Katonah Day Camp will be held at the park.
