Nearly everyone who lives in the Town of Bedford comes through Bedford Hills – whether you live nearby, use Exit 39 off the Saw Mill, use the train station, or shop in Bedford Hills hamlet or on Route 117, this state road is the gateway to many parts of our town. However, it is a rutted and unsightlyan aerial view of a city gateway. The portion over the bridges between Haines Road and Hill Street is particularly bad. If you have noticed the poor condition of NYS Route 117, please help us advocate to have it resurfaced.

Ongoing Advocacy Work

In his advocacy work on behalf of our town, Assembly Member Chris Burdick has convinced the Department of Transportation there is a need to resurface NYS State 117, but funding is not currently available for this. Residents and businesses can encourage the DOT to prioritize potential funding opportunities by reaching out to the DOT directly with your assessment of this roadway.

It is vital that the Department of Transportation continue to hear from residents who are dissatisfied with the condition of the road. In support of resolving this critical issue, the Town Board adopted a resolution to urge the state once again to make these long-needed improvements. We will send this resolution to DOT and along with a large volume of direct resident outreach, we aim to convince DOT to make this repair work a funding priority.

How you can help

Please contact Lance MacMillan, NYS DOT Hudson Valley Regional Director, at (845) 431-5750 to add your voice.

Please note

We have been informed that the DOT may conduct some patching repairs while they identify and secure the necessary funding.

Thank you

Thank you for your help. Thank you to Councilperson Bittker for her work on this important step. And thank you to Assembly Member Burdick and State Senator Harckham for their ongoing efforts to advance these infrastructure upgrades.
