Assemblyman McDonough Hosts Annual School Supply Drive in Bellmore

Donations can be dropped off at the Assemblyman's office on Bedford Avenue.

Assemblyman Dave McDonough, R,C-Merrick, has started his annual School Supply Collection Drive in Bellmore.

This year, McDonough teamed up with John Theissen of the John Theissen Children’s Foundation.

“The reason I have joined with the John Theissen Children’s Foundation is to conduct this annual drive to help those who are less fortunate," McDonough said.

“Back to school time can be difficult for many children whose families cannot afford new clothes or school supplies," Theissen said. "Every child should have a chance to attend school and feel good about themselves."

Studies have shown that many children do not attend the first day of school because they are too embarrassed that they do not have new supplies and clothing, according to Theissen.

The School Supply Collection Drive runs through Aug. 23 and donations can be dropped off at McDonough's office at 404 Bedford Ave. in Bellmore from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
