College Student From LI Critically Injured in NJ Crash

The 19-year-old was one of five college students injured in the head-on crash Sunday. The driver of the other car was impaired, police say.

A 19-year-old Long Island man was critically injured in a head-on crash near his New Jersey college early Sunday, authorities said.

Anthony Galante, of North Bellmore, was among eight people injured in the crash, which occurred at 2:07 a.m. on Pennington Road in Ewing Township near the campus of The College of New Jersey, where Galante and four others hurt in the crash are students.

Galante and five others were inside a 2007 Dodge Charger when a 2018 Kia Optima crossed over the double yellow lines. The driver of the Kia, 22-year-old David Lamar, of West Windsor, N.J., was impaired at the time of the crash, police said. He is charged with seven second-degree counts of assault by auto.

Galante, a 2017 graduate of Chaminade High School in Mineola, was among six people who suffered critical injuries in the crash.

"Surgery went very well to repair Anthony’s shattered pelvis," Geri Licurse wrote Monday night on a GoFundMe page she set up to raise money for Galante's family. "Another surgery is scheduled for Wednesday to repair his broken legs and hand. Internal bleeding seems to finally be under control. He has a very long road ahead of him but the big surgery is over so hopefully the worst is behind him."
