NORTH BELLMORE, NY — A tense morning for students and staff at Newbridge Road Elementary School.

A fire prior to Wednesday's classes caused the building to be evacuated, Superintendent Marie Testa told families in a letter.

The blaze was a "small electrical fire, which was contained to one lighting fixture in the gymnasium," Testa said.
