David Kormos, a student at Mepham High School, was recognized by the Bellmore-Merrick Board of Education at a recent meeting.

David Kormos, a senior at Mepham High School, has been selected as a 2013-2014 National Hispanic Recognition Program Scholar.
“David serves as an exemplary student who is dedicated to his studies,” Superintendent of Schools John DeTommaso said. “The district congratulates him on being named a National Hispanic Recognition Program Scholar.”
Over the past three years, Kormos has maintained a GPA above 95 and has consistently selected a rigorous academic program, including Advanced Placement and honors classes. He is a member of the National, English, Science, Spanish and Thespian honor societies, with physics and chemistry serving as his two favorite subjects. He is planning to study engineering in college next year.
Established in 1983 to identify outstanding Hispanic students, the National Hispanic Recognition Program selected 5,300 students from an applicant pool of more than 259,000 who took the 2013 PSAT/NMSQT/PAA for the award. Those students with grade point averages of 3.5 or higher were designated as scholars.
