Pair Of Bellmore Students Earn National Merit Scholarship

BELLMORE, NY — A pair of high school students from Bellmore have won National Merit Scholarships.

Cole Wasserman, from Kennedy High School; and Matt Yang, of Mepham High School, each won $2,500.

Wasserman's probable career choice is medicine, while Yang is likely to embark on a computer science path.

This is the second round of this year's scholarship announcements.

Each semifinalist was asked to complete a detailed scholarship application, which included writing an essay and providing information about extracurricular activities, awards, and leadership positions. Semifinalists also had to have an outstanding academic record, be endorsed and recommended by a high school official, and earn SAT or ACT scores that confirmed their qualifying test performance.
