Rose Girone, World's Oldest Holocaust Survivor From LI, Dies At 113
Girone spent the last decade of her life at a North Bellmore assisted living facility.

NORTH BELLMORE, NY — Long Islander Rose Girone, believed to be the world's oldest Holocaust survivor, died recently. Girone was 113.
For the last ten years of her life, Girone lived at the Belair Nursing and Rehabiliation Center in North Bellmore.
A year before Hitler and the Nazis overtook Europe, Girone and her husband lived in Germany.

Girone's husband Julius at the time and his father were rounded up and ultimately sent to the Buchenwald concentration camp. At that time, Girone gave birth to her only child, Reha. A few later Julius was released from the camp, the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center (HMTC) said.
In 1939, the family would board a ship for Shanghei, China to seek refuge from the war, the HMTC reported.

Once they got to the U.S., Girone, a skilled knitter, would open two stores in Queens.
"Don't get upset over nonsense," Girone told HMTC in 2022 about her amazing longevity.
