NASSAU COUNTY, NY — There is a serious shortage of teachers and other school staffers across Nassau County.

Hundreds of people are being sought for work in districts from Bellmore to West Hempstead, CBS News reported.

More than 30 school districts took part in a recent job fair in Freeport.

Shortages took flight in the pandemic as many employees retired, combined with higher wages now found in other fields, CBS News said.

While they can offer workers a package of benefits including the popular vacation time, most districts are limited by the school tax cap for salaries.
