Speed Awareness Signs Unveiled at North Bellmore Schools

Signs will be installed at seven local schools.

The first set of speed awareness signs to be installed at seven local schools were unveiled at Saw Mill Road Elementary School and Park Avenue Elementary School on Tuesday.Β

Senator Charles Fuschillo, R-Merrick, Town of Hempstead Supervisor Kate Murray and Councilman Gary Hudes were in attendance during aΒ special unveiling ceremony. Senator Fuschillo secured $50,000 in stateΒ funding for the Town of Hempstead to purchase and install the signs.

Speed awareness signs are electronic devices that notify drivers of theΒ speed at which they are traveling.

β€œThese speed control signs are an investment in the safety of ourΒ children,” Murray said. β€œDrawing upon a grant from SenatorΒ Fuschillo, town employees are installing these signs at local neighborhoodΒ schools.”

Signs will be installed at Grand Avenue Middle School, as well as schools within the Wantagh, Seaford and Roosevelt school districts. Each school will receive two signs, one for each direction of the affected roads

According to Town of Hempstead officials, all signs will be installed by the end of October, prior to Daylight Savings Time.
