Makayla Daube notched 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds during her time at Mepham High School.

BELLMORE, NY — A senior at Mepham High School is not only the Class of 2025 valedictorian, Makayla Daube is a standout basketball player.
Daube recently scored her 1000th point to go with her 1,000 rebounds, she became the first girls' basketball player to accomplish that at Mepham.
"From a very young age in middle school, I really learned the time management skills that most people don't really develop until later on in life," Daube told Patch.

Daube's mom was a teacher, another aspect that helped her excel in both the classroom and in sports.
"I always had the desire to want to learn. Every time I'd go on a sports trip for my club teams, I would try and stop by a nice museum. I just try to enrich myself with everything that's around me."

Daube is planning to attend Rollins College in Florida this fall, where she will continue to show off her basketball skills. However, Daube's future does not likely include turning pro.
"I really want to be a lawyer in my future," she said. "That's really my goal as of now. You never know if it'll change, but I'm pretty set on that path."|
