52 New Correction Officers Graduate In Suffolk County Sheriff Ceremony

The new officers spent the last 13 weeks in a rigorous training program.

BRENTWOOD, NY — More than 50 Suffolk County Sheriff recruits will put their hard-earned training to use.

A total of 52 recruits graduated in a ceremony at the Van Nostrand Theatre on the campus of Suffolk County Community College on Thursday morning, officially becoming new correction officers.

This is the third correction officer Class of 2022, and marks 140 graduates – the most the Suffolk Sheriff’s Office has ever graduated in one year.

The new correction officers spent the last 13 weeks in a rigorous training program that included instruction in security and supervision, defensive tactics, legal issues, implicit bias training, essential services, chemical weapons and firearms, role play, and more, a release said.

These officers join a force consisting of 837 correction officers working in the Suffolk County Correctional Facility.

During the ceremony, several awards will were presented to the members of the graduating classes, including Sheriff Toulon’s Award for Academic Excellence. (Office of Suffolk County Sheriff)

During the ceremony, several awards will were presented to the members of the graduating classes, including Sheriff Toulon’s Award for Academic Excellence.

Notable graduates include:

  • Former intern of the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office
  • Three graduates with dual citizenships (Ecuador, Poland, Liberia)
  • 40 graduates with corrections and law enforcement family members

"After weeks of rigorous training, I am confident we are adding some of the best and brightest law enforcement professionals in New York to our ranks," said Sheriff Errol D. Toulon, Jr. "I am proud to welcome these 52 new Correction Officers to our Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office team and wish them the best of luck in their career with us.”
