Drugs, Neglected Dogs Found In 'Filthy' LI Home: SPCA

BRENTWOOD, NY — A woman was arrested on charges of animal cruelty and drug possession from a Brentwood home covered in feces, urine, and rot on Feb. 19, Suffolk County SPCA said.

Stacy Zimmer, 48, was charged with animal cruelty, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia after authorities executed a search warrant for her home where they found drugs and rescued two dogs, officials said.

Officers charged Zimmer with multiple misdemeanor animal cruelty charges, alleging that she neglected two Pitbull-type dogs in her care by failing to provide a safe and clean environment, SPCA Chief Roy Gross said.

When they entered the home, detectives coughed and gagged at the odor of feces, urine, and rot so pungent it made personnel cough and gag upon entry and stung their eyes, authorities said.

Gross said they also found animals in filthy areas of garbage and feces while dead flies, buckets of urine, and garbage were found strewn around the inside of the house.

Detectives also found crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia in the home, Gross said.

The dogs were taken to the Islip Animal Shelter and will be available for adoption and officials deemed the house unfit for human occupancy by the Town of Smithtown Code Enforcement, according to Gross.

Zimmer was processed at the Suffolk County Police Department's Third Precinct and released. She is slated to appear at First District Court in Central Islip on March 7, Gross said.

The operation was executed with assistance from Suffolk County police, Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office BEAST Unit, and the Town of Islip Fire Marshal’s Office, code enforcement and animal shelter.
