Firefighters Rescue Woman Hanging From Window In CI Fire: Reports

The woman was trapped in the second floor of the burning home, a report says.

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY — A Central Islip woman whose home caught fire on Tuesday is alive, thanks to the action of local firefighters.

At about 9:15 p.m., the woman was spotted trapped on the second floor of the Oakland Avenue house, hanging out the window, ABC7 reported.

The Central Islip Fire Department, along with several other stations, arrived at the scene six minutes after the 911 call came in and just three minutes after they got to the firehouse.

Suffolk County police also responded to the scene.

Firefighters Juan Sanchez and Ken Ruddick told ABC7 that had it been a minute or two later, there could have potentially been a different outcome.

One man and another person had also escaped the flames. The three, along with two Suffolk County police officers, were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of injuries, police said.

The cause of the fire does not appear to be suspicious, police told Patch.
