'Extraordinary Man': Friends Rally For Family Of Tow Truck Driver Killed On LI Highway

A fundraiser has been launched for the family of the tow truck driver hit and killed while assisting a driver on Long Island last week.

BRENTWOOD, NY — A beloved family man, tow truck operator and lifelong Long Islander was tragically hit and killed while helping a vehicle in need last week and the community is coming together to help the family he left behind.

Richard Rodriguez, 32, of Freeport, was hit and killed by a Kia Forte mid-shift when he was loading a disabled Chevrolet Suburban onto a tow truck on westbound Sunrise Highway in Brentwood on Tuesday around 1:40 p.m., police told Patch.

Now, the community has come together to help the family with a GoFundMe organized by Shelley Borgia

"Today, we mourn the loss of Richie, an extraordinary man, devoted husband, and father to two beautiful daughters.

"A proud Long Islander from Freeport, NY, he was a cherished member of our Coastal Collision family. Tragically taken too soon, Richie’s love for his family, dedication to providing for them, and passion for towing will forever remain in our hearts.
