Islip's Receiver of Taxes Office Closed Due To Power Outage

A power outage has caused Islip's Receiver of Taxes Office to close while paying property taxes are due Jan. 10.

ISLIP, NY — Islip's Receiver of Taxes office is closed due to a power outage, town officials announced on Friday.

In early December, Patch reported that Town of Islip officials announced to local taxpayers that the first half taxes are due by Jan. 10 after property taxes were mailed out the week of Dec. 9.

In a statement on Friday, town officials said: "Please be advised, due to an unforeseen power outage, the Tax Receiver’s Office located at 40 Nassau Ave will be closed today, Friday, December 27th, and will not be able to process in-person payments. The online portal is still active for anyone who wishes to submit their payments digitally."

Normally, the office is open to receive payments Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. It will be open from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Dec. 31. and closed on Jan. 1, according to Islip Town Receiver of Taxes Andy Wittman.

Residents can pay in person at Wittman's office, pay their taxes online, or mail in a payment. To avoid a penalty, all mailed payments must be postmarked by the U.S. Post Office no later than Jan. 10, 2025.

"One evening in January has been set aside for those residents who are unable to pay in person during our regular office hours," Wittman said. "On Friday, January 10, the office will remain open until 7 p.m."
