LI Fundraises For Officer On Life Support After High-Speed Chase

A fundraiser has been created for Brendon Gallagher, the Suffolk police officer on life support after a high-speed chase on Long Island.

BRENTWOOD, NY — The Long Island community is coming together to help Suffolk County Police Officer Brendon Gallagher and his family navigate the devastating aftermath of the high-speed car chase and crash that left him on life support on Sunday.

Gallagher was on duty and driving a Suffolk PD SUV when he attempted to pull a 2021 Mustang driving 95 to 100 miles an hour over near Exit 55, police said. During a high-speed chase, Fisher "sideswiped" Gallagher's vehicle, the officer's SUV flew off the road, struck a tree, and overturned; the Mustang, driven by Cody Fisher of Brentwood, crashed into a light post, police said.

Gallagher was airlifted and hospitalized with a torn aorta and split abdomen to Stony Brook University Hospital where he underwent a four-hour surgery and received 25 units of "blood product." Fisher was later arrested on multiple charges.

According to police, Gallagher is in "critical but stable condition" and has a long road ahead of him.

Now, with a fundraiser organized by the Law Enforcement Officers Weekend, the community is rallying to help Gallagher and his family with his road to recovery. On the fundraiser page, organizers wrote:

"...Brendon suffered extensive blood loss, multiple major internal injuries and significant injuries to his legs. He’s currently in the Intensive Care Unit, fighting for his life, on a ventilator and listed in critical condition.

"Officer Gallagher and his family have a very long road of recovery ahead of them. The next days, weeks and months are crucial in our support. Brendon has served with Suffolk County for 3 years and previously served in the U.S. Army National Guard for 10 years, with a tour in Afghanistan from 2016 to 2017.

"Additionally, in December of 2022, Brendon was stabbed in his chest, arm and hand while attempting to place an emotionally disturbed individual into custody. He battled back from those injuries and was placed back onto patrol in 2023, continuing to serve his community until the fateful night of January 5th, 2025.

"This fundraiser is the ONLY official fundraiser for Brendon Gallagher, endorsed by the Suffolk County Police Benevolent Association and created by Law Enforcement Officers Weekend Inc., a verified and nationally recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. All proceeds from this fundraiser will be donated directly to the family."
