Man Dead After Officer Involved Shooting: Police
A man was shot and killed by police after charging at them with a knife on Friday afternoon, Suffolk police say.
BRENTWOOD, NY — A Long Island man armed with a knife was shot and killed by police officers on Friday, according to Suffolk County police.
Officers responded to a home on Wurz Street in Brentwood after a family member of Bruce Boyd, 54, requested a welfare check, police said.
Upon arrival, Boyd's wife met the officers outside and allowed them into the home where they found Boyd armed with a knife and suffering from multiple self-inflicted wounds, police said.

Police said when the officers then retreated out the front door and Boyd charged out of the home at them, ignoring commands to drop the knife.
At least one officer fired his gun and struck Boyd, police said. The officers administered CPR until medical personnel arrived.

Boyd was transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
