Man Who Stabbed Wife At LI McDonald's Nabbed For Attempted Murder: DA

Willie Curry tried to kill his ex-wife by stabbing her over 20 times in a McDonald's drive-thru, the Suffolk County District Attorney says.

BRENTWOOD, NY — A Brentwood man was indicted on Thursday after "viciously" stabbing his ex-wife at a McDonald's drive-thru, according to Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney.

Willie Curry, 36, is accused of second-degree attempted murder and related charges after he stabbed his ex-wife over 20 times while she was at the window of the McDonald's drive-thru in Bay Shore, the DA says.

According to the investigation, at around 8:15 a.m. on Nov.2, the woman was in her car at the window of a McDonald’s drive-thru when Curry rode up on an electric bicycle and repeatedly stabbed her through her open driver's side car window, the DA said.

As she screamed for help, people in nearby cars and inside the restaurant called 911 and yelled for Curry to leave her alone, the DA said. The attack didn't end unit the victim drove a short distance and an onlooker got out of her car and yelled at Curry to leave the injured woman alone, the DA said.

When Suffolk County police arrived at the scene, the victim was transported to South Shore University Hospital for treatment, where she received staples and stitches to close wounds to her neck, face, chest, leg, and hands, the DA said. Curry was taken into custody near the scene.

According to the DA, the attack happened one day after the woman had obtained an order of protection from family court the day prior ordered the defendant to stay away from her.

"This brutal and calculated attack represents the devastating reality of domestic violence in our community," Tierney said. "The defendant allegedly ambushed his ex-wife in broad daylight, just hours after she sought legal protection from him, showing a complete disregard for both human life and the law. Our office takes domestic violence cases with the utmost seriousness."

On Nov. 14, 2024, Curry was arraigned before Supreme Court Justice Timothy P. Mazzei and charged with one count of first-degree attempted murder, a Class B violent felony; one count of second-degree attempted assault, a Class C violent felony; one count of second-degree assault, a Class D violent felony; one count of aggravated criminal contempt, a Class D felony; one count of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a Class D felony; one count of first-degree criminal contempt, a Class E felony; and one count of first-degree harassment, a Class B misdemeanor, the DA said.

Mazzei ordered Curry held on $500,000 cash, $1,000,000 bond, or $10,000,000 partially secured bond during the pendency of the case, the DA said. Curry is due back in court on Dec. 20, and faces 25 years in prison if convicted on the top count or life in prison if found to be a persistent felony offender, the DA said.
