Murder Charges For Teen After Shooting At LI Apartment Complex: Police

A teenager is facing murder charges after being arrested for a shooting that seriously injured 2 people on Long Island in June, police say.

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY — A teenager is facing murder charges after being arrested for a shooting that seriously injured two people in June, according to Suffolk County police.

Following an investigation, police arrested a 15-year-old male for shooting two people at the Hawthorne Living Apartment Complex on June 19 and charged him with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, police said.

Police said the teen is slated to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Thursday.

On June 20, Patch reported that two groups of people were near the pool at the apartment complex on Hawthorne Avenue when they had a dispute that turned physical between two people, police said.

Someone in the group fired several shots, striking a 16-year-old involved in the physical altercation and a bystander around 4:30 p.m., police said at the time.

Two parked vehicles and an apartment door were also struck and the groups dispersed prior to police arrival, police said.

The 16-year-old male was transported in serious condition to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip and a 25-year-old female bystander was transported in serious condition to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore, police said.
