2 Accused Of Stealing OTC Drugs From Eastchester Walgreens

One of the pair initially gave police a fake name and date of birth.

EASTCHESTER, NY — Two Brooklyn residents were accused of stealing thousands of dollars worth of nonprescription drugs from Walgreens.

The Eastchester Police Department said Ernesto Serrano, 41, and Velvet Jefferson, 39, both from Brooklyn, stole about $5,000 worth of over-the-counter medications from the Walgreens at 370 White Plains Road in Eastchester.

They fled the scene in a 2020 Hyundai Elantra, authorities said, and with the assistance of the Westchester Real Time Crime Center, they were quickly located.

The pair was stopped by members of the New York Police Department and taken into custody.

An investigation found that, in addition to the medication stolen from Walgreens, police said they were also in possession of about $8,000 worth of other assorted over-the-counter drugs that were believed to have been stolen elsewhere.

Jefferson was charged with third-degree grand larceny, a felony, and sent to the Westchester County Jail.

Serrano was charged with third-degree grand larceny, a felony, and false impersonation, a misdemeanor.

Police said he initially gave officers a false name and date of birth. Once he was properly identified, police said it was learned Serrano had an active bench warrant from Kings County for numerous charges including attempted murder, assault and weapons possession.

He was also sent to the Westchester County Jail.
