Armour Villa and Gramatan Village Partner in 4th Annual Friendsgiving
100+ Special Holiday Meals Delivered to Local Seniors
Gramatan Village is giving special thanks to their community partners for helping to spread holiday cheer with their 4th Annual Friendsgiving initiative. For the fourth consecutive year, the fundraising efforts led by the Armour Villa Neighborhood Association in partnership with Gramatan Village were able to provide over 100 meals to local senior citizens. The meals this year were generously provided and prepared by John Byrne and his team at Scarborough Fair Catering. Meal distribution was coordinated through our community partners at Eastchester Senior Programs and Services, Yonkers NNORC, Yonkers Public Library – Crestwood Branch, Christ Church Bronxville, and a team of dedicated community volunteers who hand-delivered each meal.
This year, there was an added dash of cheer with the inclusion of personal holiday cards that were delivered with the meals. The initiative was led by The Bronxville School’s Freshman Transition Program students and School Counselor Tim Nelson - thank you to the thoughtful 5th, 9th, 11th and 12th grade students for taking the time to give back to our local seniors.
Gramatan Village has received calls and notes of thanks from several meal recipients, expressing gratitude and appreciation for being remembered during this holiday season. Many have especially noted how touched they were by the personal notes from students in which they shared what they are thankful for this year and wishes for a happy and healthy holiday. The combined efforts of several community partners culminated in hundreds of acts of kindness to brighten Thanksgiving for local seniors in our community. Grace Gilmer, Executive Director of Gramatan Village says, “This is one of our most impactful community efforts of the year - it brings personal joy to so many and we are as grateful as ever for the support we receive from our partners in the community”.
