The Bronxville Adult School to Offer Free Classes at its Open House

Kicking Off Fall Semester With 21 Free Classes, by Jane Moynihan

The Bronxville Adult School (BAS) is holding an Open House on Tuesday evening, September 10, offering a full slate of 21 free classes covering a wide range of subjects. New and returning students will have an opportunity to take a free sample class to get a taste of the breadth and quality of BAS’s instruction. The evening promises to be packed with learning, fun, and the chance to socialize with fellow students. Light refreshments will be served. For those new to BAS, it is an opportunity to try out a class and get a feel for the school community. As an extra bonus, if you decide to sign up for the class for the full semester, you will receive 10% off the course fee.

“The community has been supportive of BAS so this is our way of giving back,” says Victoria Thiessen, Director of the Bronxville Adult School. “We wanted to provide an easy opportunity for new students to experience a class for the first time and for existing students to try something new.” Classes at the Open House include include fitness, art, cooking, history, games, dance, crafts, and a film class with the Bronxville Picture House.

You must register in advance for the Open House. Registration is now open here, and space is limited. In order to provide enough spots for new students, participants may only register for a class with an instructor they have not taken previously. The Open House will take place at The Bronxville School (Midland Avenue entrance) and begins at 5:30 pm.

The BAS fall semester begins after the Open House and includes a full catalog of over 200 day and evening classes spanning eleven categories. The courses range from one-night workshops (such as art, cooking, crafts, history, and business lectures) to multi-class series (including language, dance, fitness, arts and more). One of the reasons BAS has prospered for over 80 years is its ability to remain current by continuously offering new programming. For example, new classes this fall include Notre Dame of Paris: Its Perilous Journey to Reopening, The Early Days of Rock and Roll, Suminagashi Paper Marbling, Bookbinding, Paper Quilling, Stretch and Restore, Fall Herbs for your Windowsill, and more. Instructors are generally experts in their field.
