Bronxville-Eastchester Mom Gets A Shoutout: 'I Truly Love This Woman'

BRONXVILLE-EASTCHESTER, NY— Moms do so much for everyone around them. We try to celebrate them all year long, but Mother's Day is a perfect opportunity to shout it from the rooftops and post it on Patch: Mom rocks!

Here at Patch we've launched an initiative to help recognize the awesome moms and mom figures in communities like yours.

This submission comes from Johniqua Nurse who nominated Carleen Nurse-Barnes of Bronxville-Eastchester.

What makes your Mom extra special?

She works hard, she gives her last to her kids or the person that is in need on the train. During a heart attack in the middle of the pandemic, she still went to work — doing 12-hour shifts until she couldn't take the pain anymore. She also found out she had a brain aneurysm, which the doctor placed a stent in her brain for. She would tell you how good God has been to her. She loves the Lord, and she is funny and loves to make jokes. Her grandson was born two weeks after her heart attack. I truly love this woman. She gets more done by 12 p.m. then the person that needs all day.

Why do you feel your Mom deserves the spotlight?

She does nothing but go to work or church. No real vacation. We are her life.
