Bronxville Students Rally For A Sweet Cause, Donate Candy To Troops

BRONXVILLE, NY — There's always the temptation to eat all the trick-or-treating bounty, but local elementary students set a good example by donating a half-ton of candy to help brighten the holidays of those who are helping to keep us safe.

Bronxville Elementary School students collected 1,002 pounds of candy during the annual Halloween Candy Drive. Led by art teacher Kendall Fousek, the initiative received overwhelming support from students and their families.

The students donated a substantial portion of the candy, almost 862 pounds, to Feeding Westchester, making a positive impact on local communities. The remaining candy, under the coordination of high school teacher Julie Clark, will be distributed to U.S. troops, providing them with special treats, and shared with veterans. In addition, some of the candy will be shared with children at the Andrus school.

The Bronxville Elementary School Student Council, under the direction of fifth grade teacher Susan Engelhardt, organized its members to support and to help make the drive a success. The students enthusiastically helped to collect and sort candy on the days of the drive.

"A heartfelt thanks to all the parents and Student Council students who volunteered their time and energy to ensure such a successful event, and to the amazing generosity of the Bronxville Elementary School community for their donations," Fousek said. "Olivia Cherundolo and Kristen Howard, who head the Bronxville Elementary School Council’s Character and Community Committee, dedicated their time and energy mobilizing parent volunteers and assisting during the collection. Specials thanks to Christine Pinzon Muaddi and Megan Pedro who delivered the candy to Feeding Westchester."
