Celebrate the Hudson River with CURB
Join Sarah Lawrence College Center for the Urban River at Beczak on August 5th for a free event in Yonkers.
Join the Center for the Urban River at Beczak (CURB) for a free event honoring and raising awareness about the Hudson River. This event is made possible by a grant from the NYS DEC Office of Environmental Justice’s Community Impact Grant Program and organized by The Blue Team, a six week long paid internship opportunity offered to Yonkers Public School students who have previously participated in CURBS’s weeklong Winter Water Academy learning intensive.
The Blue Team’s research focuses on water quality in the Hudson River and the students will be on hand to share the results of their work and inform the community of the health of the Hudson. As part of the “Great Hudson River Fish Count,” CURB staff will offer seining for fish, a method for catching fish that involves dragging a 30-foot-long net through the river from 12:30-2:00pm. Waders will be provided to keep participants dry and this activity will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
Other activities offered throughout the day include free food, crafts and souvenirs, face painting, games, music, and more!
