Eastchester WWII Vet Dead at 91

Romeo worked in the construction industry, supervising a number of school construction projects here in Westchester.



Tonight, friends and family are saying a final farewell to Eastchester World War II veteran George Romeo. Romeo, who was a longtime Eastchester resident, passed away on March 27 at the age of 91. Romeo worked in the construction industry, supervising a number of school construction projects here in Westchester after the war. His family would often refer to him as "Mr. Fixit."

Romeo graduated from NYU. He also attended and graduated from Fort Schuyler Merchant Marine Academy. While in the Navy, he served as a lieutenant aboard the USS LaSalle, which was a troop transport ship.

Romeo is survived by his wife, Rosaria, sister, Fay Commisa, his daughter, Georgine Addeo, son and wife, George and Robyn Romeo, son and wife, John and Jill Romeo. He is also survived by six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. 

The Westchester Funeral Home says that viewing will be held at their facility on Main Street in Tuckahoe today from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral and church services will be held on April 3 at 10:30 a.m. at the Assumption Church in Tuckahoe. Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne.
