James Padgett, NYPA Westchester engineer backs transmission project

Lifelong Westchester County resident and engineer supports key electrical transmission project

He has always been proud to call Westchester County home. The businesses, the schools, the arts, and above all, the people, made the county and the greater downstate New York region unlike any other place for James Padgett. After leaving Harrison, NY, for Union College in upstate New York, James knew he would return to Westchester. Where else could compare?

Coming from a county of problem-solvers, he chose to study electrical engineering and pursue a career in the energy industry, a field teeming with complex challenges and limitless potential.

Padgett started his career as a transmission and substation engineer in 2013, where he was drawn to the pace of technological advancements in the energy industry. “Improving the electric grid demands action, and I’m proud to work for a Westchester-based company finding solutions,” said Padgett. “As an engineer with the New York Power Authority, I’ve been a part of projects to modernize the grid, helping New York homes and businesses reliably access the power they need.”

James is currently working on Propel NY Energy, a core transmission infrastructure project co-led by NYPA and New York Transco with an expected in-service date of 2030. Propel NY Energy will bolster grid reliability, resiliency and capacity of the downstate grid by developing 90 miles of underground and submarine transmission lines across parts of Long Island, New York City and Westchester County.

Padgett added, “I believe deeply in this project and the benefits it will bring to all New Yorkers, including my neighbors in Westchester County.”
