Meat Vending Machine Company Closes Retail Locations

EASTCHESTER, NY — Just months after opening a store in Eastchester, The Applestone Meat Co. said it was closing all its retail locations.

The company announced, on its Facebook page, that it was not a decision that was made lightly.

"We love what we do and we feel incredibly lucky to have been a part of your lives for the last five years," the post said. "Unfortunately, maintaining our principles regarding supply chain, processing methods, staff pay and benefits and product pricing has proved to be too challenging,"

Website orders and curbside pickup will continue to be available in Stone Ridge until inventory runs outs, the store said.

The owners did say they will be "developing and offering products and services to help retailers expand their businesses through innovative technologies."

The Applestone Meat Company had meat vending machines in Stone Ridge in Ulster County and Hudson in Columbia County when they opened a storefront vending location in Eastchester in Westchester in February.

Machines were stocked fresh daily. Raw meat, such as chops and steaks, were in the machines for a maximum of a week, while processed foods, like hot dogs, could remain for up to two weeks.
