Police are strongly urging residents to take extra precautions:
- Never leave vehicles unlocked.
- Never leave keys/fobs inside vehicles.
- Vehicle keys/fobs should be kept on the second floor, if possible. Police explained that this keeps keys out of sight, and also helps prevent criminals from obtaining the frequency from the key fob which would allow them to enter and start a vehicle.
- If possible, especially for luxury vehicles, park in a secured garage.
- Make sure all doors and windows, including garages, are locked. Security cameras and alarms should be activated overnight and when leaving home.
- Keep exterior lights on and consider installation of motion-activated lighting.
- Report suspicious activity immediately to 911.
