Village Lutheran Church to hold Blood Drive on September 9
Bronxville, NY- Village Lutheran Church and The Chapel School are excited to again partner with the New York Blood Center on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 172 White Plains Road, Bronxville from 9AM until 1:30PM to host a blood drive. “Join us to give back to the community in a truly life changing way since each donation collected can save up to three lives,” stated Kim Zwisdak, site coordinator for the drive. "Since I began hosting the blood drives at VLC/TCS in 2019, we have collected 293 units of blood which has potentially saved over 875 people. Please register for our September drive and help us reach our goal of collecting 42 units. Your donations will help us to impact over 1,000 lives! If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to reach out," stated Kim.
Blood donors of all types – especially those with types AB, O negative, A negative and B negative are encouraged to give. Type O negative is the universal blood type that can be transfused to patients of any blood type. It is often used to treat trauma patients and is always in demand by hospitals.

“I am happy to help coordinate the drive and strive each drive to meet and exceed our goal in honor of my brother-in-law Larry,” stated Kim. “Blood donors allowed our family to have more precious time with him.” Each appointment is about an hour but the actual donation is only 10 minutes. "If you are hesitant or scared of needles think of all the patients who need these life saving transfusions, they have no choice."
According to the New York Blood Center, approximately 75% of blood donations in our region come from blood drives that are hosted by community partners. It’s important for everyone to donate today so that as a community we can build up a strong blood supply. Blood is a critical component of emergency preparedness because it’s perishable and the supply must be constantly replenished. The blood that’s on the shelf now is the blood that will save lives if there’s an emergency.
