12-YO Fell Onto L Train Tracks In Brooklyn, NYPD Says

BROOKLYN, NY — A child tripped and fell onto the L train tracks in Williamsburg Tuesday morning, but only had minor injuries, according to the NYPD.

The 12-year-old tumbled off the northbound platform at the station on Lorimer Street and Metropolitan Avenue about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, police said.

He was rushed to an area hospital with minor injuries, and there was no criminality suspected, police said.

L trains were completely halted in both directions following the fall and restarted after 9 a.m., transit authorities said.

The Lorimer Street station has been under construction for months which has shortened a stretch of the platform, but the cause of the fall was not immediately clear.

Electeds in March 2023 sent a letter to the MTA demanding it address the locals' safety and environmental concerns about the station.

"Our constituents have patiently tolerated the inconveniences imposed by the various construction crews for almost a year, including increased trash, rats, [and] dangerous pedestrian conditions," wrote City Council Member Jennifer Gutiérrez and Assembly Member Emily Gallagher.
