5 Firefighters Injured In Huge Williamsburg Warehouse Fire: FDNY

The lumber storage facility burned for over six hours on Tuesday, fire officials said.

WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN — Five firefighters suffered injuries during a six-hour long battle with a massive lumber facility blaze on Tuesday, FDNY officials said.

At around 11 a.m., a fire broke out at a single-story lumber storage warehouse at 304 Hewes St., according to fire officials, bringing over 200 firefighters to the scene.

The flames eventually spread to a neighboring three-story building, officials said.

Over six hours later, the blaze was brought under control, according to officials.

Five firefighters were treated for minor injuries and brought to Wyckoff Hospital for further evaluation, officials said.

"It started in the one-story building and it was a heavy fire condition which was extending into the three-story building," FDNY Chief of Department John Hodgens told News12. "A heavy load of combustibles. Just a lot of stock that was stored in these buildings...it's compact...difficult to get to the seed of the fire."
