Brooklyn Hospital Performs Groundbreaking Blood Pressure Procedure
The hospital performed Brooklyn's first minimally invasive procedure to control hypertension.

BROOKLYN, NY — Good news for the 900,000 Brooklynites living with hypertension: Maimonides Health now offers a new, minimally invasive treatment to treat high blood pressure that doesn't require an implant.
This makes Maimonides the first hospital in Brooklyn to perform the new procedure.
“High blood pressure is a significant health problem, and for many of our patients with this condition, medication and lifestyle changes don’t provide enough control,” said Dr. Sergey Ayzenberg, the associate director of Interventional Cardiology at Maimonides Health.

The treatment, which targets overactive nerves near the kidneys to help control hypertension, is done during mild sedation, the hospital said.
The doctor inserts a very thin tube into the artery leading to the kidney and then administers radiofrequency energy to calm the excessive activity of the nerves connected to the kidney, leaving no implant behind.
