Brooklyn Museum To Host Lots Of Free Events For 200th Birthday Bash
The weekend-long birthday bash celebrates Brooklyn art in all its many forms.
BROOKLYN, NY — This weekend, Brooklyn Museum is hosting an arts festival to celebrate its 200 years of service in the borough, with a stacked lineup of free programs for visitors of all ages.
The weekend-long birthday bash from Oct. 5-6 celebrates Brooklyn culture in all its many forms, including live concerts and DJ sets, gallery tours, art talks, poetry, children's workshops, tote bag printing, charm bracelet making, and so much more.
“The Brooklyn Museum has long been a beacon for artistic expression and community connection, and what better way to mark this occasion than with a weekend-long celebration?” Anne Pasternak, the director of Brooklyn Museum, said.

This weekend, visitors can also see three newly opened exhibitions: an American art exhibition, a Brooklyn art exhibition featuring more than 200 local contemporary artists, and a retrospective spotlighting Elizabeth Catlett, a defining artist of the 20th century.
One of the celebration's highlights is the unveiling of the Museum on Wheels, an Airstream trailer designed to bring Brooklyn Museum art and programming to all ages across the borough. During the weekend, it will be parked outside the museum for visitors to explore, museum officials said.

And, on Saturday night, the Museum is hosting a live concert from Burnt Sugar, The Arkestra Chamber, a spectacular soul-jazz band, followed by a dance party from The Layout, which celebrates Black joy and creative expression, museum officials said.
“We are thrilled to commemorate this milestone with the communities that have supported us for generations, and we look forward to continuing to uplift them for many more,” Pasternak said.
