'Evil' Brooklyn Skyscraper Auction Called Off For Settlement: Report

BROOKLYN, NY — Brooklyn Tower's foreclosure auction has been postponed in favor of settlement talks with a developer, according to multiple media reports.

The auction scheduled for 9 DeKalb Avenue at 10 a.m. Monday was called off by lender Silverstein Properties, Crain’s reported.

Silverstein released a statement 30 minutes later, disclosing there were in the midst of settlement talks with Micheal Stern's JDS Development., Crain's reported.

In March, Stern defaulted on a $240 million loan on the property, according to the Real Deal. Nearly a decade ago, Stern acquired the site with Joseph Chetrit — who was later bought out in 2018.

The building's look has an evil vibe, Brooklyn residents told the New York Post last year. Some compared the tower to the Tower of Sauron in Mordor from “The Lord of the Rings."

The tower features about 417 rental units and 143 residential condominiums. A 440-square-foot studio in the skyscraper sold for $905,000, making it the most expensive studio in borough history, 6sqft reported.
